As Good As It Gets - What A Success Story
Amidst our heroics of the Commonwealth Games, the running of the Australian Grand Prix and The Clipsal 500, the footy season has crept up on most of us.
The AFL is awash with TV rights monies and we are now Eddie free. How good is that?
Whilst this has been happening, one of our clients, a small IT software company named Rocksoft has recently been acquired by NASDAQ listed data specialist Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) for $86.5 million!
This is a company that started with an idea (albeit a very good one), believed in itself and was able to take its ideas and products to some of the icon names of Silicon Valley (ie Microsoft, Sun, Hewlett Packard, EMC etc) and broker an outstanding deal for all its Shareholders.
The deal will bring the US company to Adelaide to set up its Australian Headquarters and develop data-storage software, expanding on Rocksoft's twenty member workforce.
Founded in 2002 by Dr Ross Williams who bought in Jim Johnson as CEO, Rocksoft raised $11M in private equity (some from our clients) to develop "blocklets" technology.
This world-first technology, compresses, de-duplicates and preserves the integrity of stored data. What this means is, redundant data through a company's infrastructure can be eliminated, enabling companies to retain more information with much smaller amounts of physical data storage ie hard disk space.
The deal means staff will be handsomely rewarded. Most will receive a minimum of 100% gain and in some cases up to ten times their original investment.
What this goes to show is, if you have a vision, have the right product, employ talented people, get expert advice, are committed and persistent, then any business can realise their dream - even against the odds ie Australia taking on the US and winning!
Rocksoft is living proof of where there's a will, there's a way.
Congratulations to all involved - A stunning success story and one that should be constantly used as a benchmark for the "Great Australian Dream"!

Did You Know?
Wine Industry
- Wine makers continue to battle for a share of retail shelf space. With more than 2,000 wineries and 60,000 labels, brand recognition is becoming increasingly difficult, and accessing the consumer (not the customer) is the key issue for many smaller wineries.
- Although almost half of Australia's wine consumption was from a cask, that percentage is slowly decreasing, and it is not seen as a particularly profitable niche for the larger international companies.
